Hiking in Villach & its surroundings
for Slow Trail fans, hikers and climbers
Slow and steady wins the race. After all, it is your holiday so you’re allowed to take it easy. Have you heard of the Villach Slow Trail to the Bleistätter Moor? These gentle hikes bring you back to nature and its roots. Slow trails are dedicated to taking it easy – a sort of “slow mo” instead of “high speed”.
The easy circular trail begins at the bike path by the “Stone House” by architect Domenig. You’ll observe a variety of bird species and will be treated to wonderful views. You can also combine the hike with a boat trip from the Ossiach monastery back to the “Stone House”.

Feel alive in the great outdoors
The mountains around Villach feature an exciting combination of beautiful hiking trails, high summits and excellent regional food. The most famous and popular mountain is the Gerlitzen Alpe. Because the Carinthians love life, they are always ready for a good time – even at a thousand metres above sea level! The HüttenKult event takes place every year at the beginning of autumn. This is a combination of hiking, culinary delights and tonnes of the typical Carinthian love of life. Traditional chalets draw visitors with excellent local cuisine and the best international delicacies.
